Taking Our First Baby Steps!

We wanted to write this post in order to update those of you that are interested in the beginning (baby) steps of our missionary efforts.

The first baby step we’ve taken this week has been to email friends and churches (this is a very long process and one we’re not even close to finishing!) Last night as Steven and I were talking we decided that we would like to clarify what we mean by “raising support” in our emails.  When we say, “raise support” we mean monthly support. We are seeking financial support on a monthly basis so that we will be able to be in missions full-time. The different ministries that we will be  helping with do not provide compensation and in order for us to be able to serve in these ministries we need our support to come from our brothers and sisters. One thing that we would like to make very clear is that we do not intend to partner up with individuals and/or churches strictly on a financial view-point. We would like those who are going to partner up with us to be involved with us in different ways. We use the word “partnership” on purpose. Our goal is to build horizontal relationships in order to better honor our vertical relationship. We are doing all of this (raising support, serving in Guate, proclaiming the gospel) for the glory of his name -and better yet, we are better at doing this when we do this along side other believers. If you would like to partner with us, we would like you to be informed and be praying for our work in Guatemala, and then at some point even come to Guatemala and see how the Lord has been revealing himself.

Another baby step we took today was speaking to the G.A.’s (Girls in Action) at our Wednesday night church. This is a group of sixth-grade girls (pictured above) that learn on a weekly-basis about different missionary couples and the work that the Lord is using them for. Unfortunately, not a lot of them were there tonight, but the ones that were there were the best audience in the world! The girls asked wonderful questions and were very attentive as we shared with them about Guatemala and what we would like to start doing in August. We felt privileged to speak to these girls and are honored that they will be praying for us while we are in Guate. Their hope (and ours too) is that they will be able to come down to Guatemala and see the Lord working in a different country and culture!

On a side note, here is a picture of some of the youth that we get to spend time with on Wednesdays. Steven and I have been involved with the youth for about two years and have enjoyed getting to know them and watch them grow in their relationships with the Lord. Although we are sad that we are leaving them in a couple of months, we are excited to see what youth the Lord is going to put in our lives that we will get to teach, love, and learn along with in Guatemala and at CAG.

Tonight we got to go to Silky’s as a treat to kick off the summer. Aren’t they precious?
