Happy Thanksgiving (Weekend)!

Happy Thanksgiving to our friends and family in the United States and to our fellow missionaries celebrating this weekend and giving thanks for everything that God has done.

The past few weeks have been very busy for Gabriela and I. Here are some of the “highlights” from this past month:

Gabriela has been given a big load of homework that she must finish before she begins med school. It’s basically assigned to each student coming in to make sure he or she actually knows their stuff, as far as science goes. Obviously, she’s not getting any help from me. This has kept her busy on weekends and after school.

Speaking of med school, many of Gaby’s classes from college in the U.S. were accepted and transferred successfully! We are still figuring out what that means as far as being able to skip a year or not but we are praying for the best!

We’ve been in contact with a church in the hopes that they might support us. We were informed this week that they will not support us this year but will consider beginning to support us next year beginning in January 2014. Although we are saddened that things didn’t work out as soon as we would have liked them to, we are grateful that they will still consider us for the future and are confident that the Lord has us where he wants us and with all the support we need.

I (Steven) have been tasked with helping develop a vision and direction for the overall theological and spiritual formation and development of the school. Please pray as I work with other staff to accomplish this most effectively.

Gabriela and I began to lead worship through music at our church this past week. Gabriela has been playing guitar for a few years now and I accompanied on the djimbe. We’re happy to serve in the church in this way!

One of the dads at the school we teach at works with an orphanage in Guatemala. Earlier this week he was attacked and shot 5 times.  By God’s grace he was able to make it to a hospital and undergo numerous operations. We are happy to say he is now recovering but is still in a fragile state. His name is Doug Johnson and he and his family have been serving in Guatemala for many years now. Please keep them in your prayers.

Gabriela’s father’s car was broken into earlier this week as well and his computer bag (with a lot of important information, computer, accessories  etc.) was stolen, while they were in a restaurant. This has become a common happening in Guatemala and the police and restaurant security are not too much help. There is really no chance of recuperating these items. We are frustrated that these kind of things happen, but as we learned from Doug Johnson’s situation, things could always be worse. Even then, God always protects and provides.

That’s all for now! Happy Thanksgiving (Weekend) everyone!
